24 May Guest Blog | Joe Harbot, Playwright
Our new grants and mentoring scheme, KSF Artists of Choice, is open for applications from 1 – 29 May to UK and US artists across the disciplines of dance, theatre, musical theatre, music and film. Over the next few weeks, we will post guest blogs from some of our previous grant winners about how they used and were impacted by their KSF grant.
Name | Joe Harbot
Project name | Potholes
Year awarded KSF grant | 2013
I was given a grant by the KSF to help support me whilst I developed and worked on my second full-length play. The play was still in the early stages of writing when I was awarded the grant, but is now complete.
The KSF grant allowed me to make space in my day dedicated to working towards the completion of my play. Without it, it would not have been possible to focus solely on this project and completion would have been much more protracted, or even impossible.
Having finished my play I have grouped together with an excellent young director, Hannah Bannister (Gardening for the Unfulfilled and Alienated), and experienced producer, Will Bourdillon (The Miniaturists), to work towards a production at an excellent London venue with a history of developing new writing.
By providing funding during a time of funding cuts to the arts, the KSF foundation is offering artists the opportunity to continue to produce exciting and innovative new work for a wide range of audiences. It gave me freedom to work on my project as I wished, without forcing any agenda or constraints.
Thanks to KSF for their invaluable faith in this project, and for their investment in the arts in general - it is much appreciated.
