Year Awarded KSF Grant | 2015
The KSF grant allows us to complete our first audio-visual project, The Writers Trilogy. The project involves the creation of 3 songs combined with 3 short films that explore and correspond with three of the 20th century’s great writers: Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Frantz Kafka and Paul Celan. The result will be a mini album, a short film trilogy and a live show combining music and film, a sort of a re-take on the silent film tradition. The aim is for this to be the first in a series of projects that explore the possibilities of combining experimental pop music with a cinematic vision.
We are already in the thick of pre production, which is very exciting. We’ve done auditions and chose our actors, met with art directors and special effects. We are working in a small studio in Brooklyn with Yoav Shemesh, our music producer a few times a week. It is thrilling to see and hear how things are materialising.
The awards has meant that we now have a budget that meets our needs, but not less important, it is a sign of recognition of the value of what we do and a quality stamp to our project. This is important for our motivation and for opening doors to different presentation and performance opportunities. As part of the award we are also paired with an industry mentor who will help us understand how to increase our visibility significantly and how to make this project the cornerstone of a long career.
If I had to give one piece of advise to other artists it would be, be serious about what you do. Dig in until you find what really matters to you. Find good people to collaborate with. Think forward, and outside of the box.
