10 Sep Guest Blog | West Bank Brooklyn Production
KSF Artists of Choice, is open to artists across the disciplines of dance, theatre, musical theatre, music and film. Over the next few weeks, we will post guest blogs from some of our 2015 grant winners about how the grant has impacted their work. Applications will be open in early 2016.
Name | Ghazi Albuliwi
Project | Highly Suspect, West Bank Brooklyn Productions
Year awarded KSF grant | 2015
I was awarded the grant for my project Highly Suspect, a feature length comedic play.
The grant has helped to take my project to the next level. The Off Broadway theatre ‘The New Group’ has come on board as producers of the workshop in partnership with the Kevin Spacey Foundation. Casting, and logistics will be handled through The New Group with an eye for a one week December workshop run of the play with a full cast and minimal sets.
One of the reasons people should apply for the Artists’ of Choice award is because it allows the industry to take notice and want to sit down and discuss your work on a more respectful playing field. It opens doors to partnerships along with giving audiences exposure with the Kevin Spacey brand.
If I were to give one piece of advise to other emerging artists it would be to never stop creating work and to continue sculpting their voice as an artist, free from the pressure of trying to break into the industry. The business will open its doors to you when they see potential. Potential comes from hard work with you as an individual artist and your work.
I’m excited to be a part of the Kevin Spacey Foundation family and look forward to bringing you more good news in the future about my play Highly Suspect and its audience run.
