KSF Artists of Choice 2016: Canada Film Selection Panel

Today we were interviewing shortlisted applicants for KSF Artists of Choice: Canada Film Category. Below you can read about the high level industry professionals who worked with us on the selection panel to uncover some of the best new talent working in the US Canadian industry today.

Gary Harvey is a director and producer. He has directed over 120 episodes of television series including Murdoch Mysteries, Being Erica, The Border, Wild Roses, Exes and Ohs, Godiva’s and Traders. He produced the award winning CBC television movie The War Between Us and the first season of The Adventures of Shirley Holmes. He is on the board of Crazy 8s, a non- profit film competition.

Nicola Pender is Director of Media and Marketing for Thunderbird TV, as well as being a freelance media professional who specialises in entertainment & lifestyle publicity, marketing & social media management through her company Pender PR. She is on the board for WIFTV (Women in Film & TV).

Jason Priestley has worked in all aspects of film and television as actor, director and producer for more that three decades. He is known to many for his role as Brandon Walsh the 90s hit show Beverly Hills, 90210. He won a Canadian Screen Award for his leading role in Call Me Fitz. His directing credits include Rookie Blue, Saving Hope, Haven and the independent Canadian film, Cas & Dylan. This summer he can be seen starring in Global TV’s new series Private Eyes.

Jonas Quastel is a writer and director. His screenplays include Crackerjack, starring Nastassia Kinski and Christopher Plummer; Listen, a thriller starring Brooke Langdon; and Sub Zero with Costas Mandylor and Nia Peebles. His directing work includes The Untold; Ripper II; Premonition and Scourge.

Amanda Tapping is an actress, producer and director. Acting work includes 12 seasons on Stargate: SG-1 as Samantha Carter and Dr. Helen Magnus in Sanctuary. Her work as director includes Primeval: New World, Arctic Air, Continuum, The Magicians and Dark Matter. She has been honoured with Women in Film and Television’s “Woman of Vision” award and The Jules Verne Award for her humanitarian work and was named ACTRA’s Woman of the Year.

KSF Artists of Choice is a pioneering funding and mentoring initiative for UK, US and Canada based emerging artists working in theatre, musical theatre, dance or film. Epitomizing KSF’s aim of ‘sending the elevator back down’ it will provide funding, year-round support and mentoring by industry heavyweights.
