KSF Artists of Choice 2016: Canada Theatre Selection Panel

Today we were interviewing shortlisted applicants for KSF Artists of Choice: Canada Theatre Category. Below you can read about the high level industry professionals who worked with us on the selection panel to uncover some of the best new talent working in the Canadian Theatre industry today.

Carmen Aguirre is an actress and writer. She plays a prominent role in TV series Endgame. Aguirre has written over twenty stage plays to date, including The Refugee Hotel and In a Land Called I Don’t Remember. She has also released a memoir called: Mexican Hooker #1 And My Other Roles Since the Revolution, and won the CBC Radio Canada Reads competition for her book Something Fierce: Memoirs of a Revolutionary Daughter.

Sarah Rodgers is a director who has worked with The Arts Club Theatre, The Gateway Theatre, Pacific Theatre and Solo Collective among others. Recent credits include: Pride and Prejudice; A Christmas Carol; Off Leash; Dressing for a Wedding and The Tenant of Wildfell Hall. She is currently working on West Side Story for Theatre Under the Stars, and has won four Jessie Richardson Awards.

Maureen Webb is a casting director, known for her work on numerous film and TV projects, including The Imaginarium of Dr Parsnassus, 50/50 and The Confirmation. She co-founded Project Limelight Society - a free performing arts program for young people living in East Vancouver.

Jerry Wasserman is an actor, critic, and Professor of English and Theatre at University of British Columbia. He has performed on most of Vancouver’s major stages and his work includes numerous film and TV credits. He edits Modern Canadian Plays, and has won the Jessie Richardson Career Achievement Award and UBCP’s Sam Payne Award.

KSF Artists of Choice is a pioneering funding and mentoring initiative for UK, US and Canada based emerging artists working in theatre, musical theatre, dance or film. Epitomizing KSF’s aim of ‘sending the elevator back down’ it will provide funding, year-round support and mentoring by industry heavyweights.
