About This Project

Texas. 1938. The Goree All-Girl String Band is the biggest new radio sensation in the state. They also happen to be convicted criminals.
This new musical tells the true story of six women who teach themselves music behind bars and earn a slot on a prison-based radio program. Their goal? To gain enough fame to earn a pardon for their crimes. And against all odds, it works. Through sisterhood, determination, and a little bit of luck, these women work (and play) together to fiddle their way to freedom.

Inspired by a true story, The Goree All-Girl String Band is a tale of camaraderie and redemption that features an ensemble of actor-musicians performing a brand new country score by Artie Sievers and Michael Bradley. These extraordinary six women will come to life in a fully-staged Next Link Production at the 2017 New York Musical Festival.

“I and the rest of the Goree team are humbled and honored to receive such a prestigious award. With the Kevin Spacey Foundation’s help, we are able to bring these women and their incredible journey out of obscurity and back into the spotlight.”
