What if there was a school-based program that decreased absenteeism; increased reading scores, graduation rates and college enrolments; taught critical thinking and public speaking skills; and fostered community? There is such a program: The Baltimore Urban Debate League. For fifteen years its mission has been to bring the benefits of academic debate to thousands.
