Tony Gittens, FilmFest DC Director
About: Founded in 1986, the mission of the Washington, DC International Film Festival (Filmfest DC) is to bring the best in new international cinema to our nation’s capital. Filmfest DC remains one of the longest running, signature cultural events in Washington, and its only international film festival. The festival demonstrates the highest standards of artistic excellence by screening the best international films for audiences composed of Washington residents and visitors. Over 80 recent films from talented international filmmakers are selected. Many are awardees from Cannes, Berlin and Sundance and meet our criteria of artistic quality and cultural diversity. The 2014 line up included performances by Oscar-winners such as Chiwetel Ejiofor, Kevin Kline, Susan Sarandon, and Michel Gondry. Our five juried awards acknowledge the festival’s most deserving films.
Outcomes: Providing Washington DC audiences with a fantastic 2014 festival and hopefully to secure the future of the event by recognizing the need for sustainable investment and support.
“The major impact of the Kevin Spacey Foundation grant was to help leverage additional resources for our event. Receiving acknowledgement and support from the KSF and its namesake helped to highlight our organization’s cultural contributions.”
