About: Occupied, Carla Grauls first full-length script, is a darkly comic play about Romanian immigrants living in a squatted public toilet who kidnap an Englishman to learn how to be English. It explores the social clichés and prejudices around the new wave of Eastern European immigration, and the assumptions held by newcomers about the life in UK. The play ran for four weeks at Theatre503, London.
Outcomes: Occupied received very positive responses from audiences, achieved 4 and 5 star reviews and has been nominated for two Off West End Awards. Methuen Bloomsbury Press published the play script and the future plans include a UK tour and a possible trip to the Brits Off Broadway festival in 2015.
“Most importantly, the KSF funding of Occupied has enabled us to invest in our future as a group of practitioners.”
