The Suicide Shop

About This Project

Freya Smith and Jack Williams, Writers

About: The project is a rehearsed reading of a new musical, The Suicide Shop. The Suicide Shop is a musical adaptation of the French novel, ‘Les Magasin Des Suicides’ by Jean Teulé. The piece is a black comedy that centres around the Tuvaches: a family living in a near apocalyptic society who sell death inducing products to the depressed and suicidal population. However, their lives are turned upside down by their optimistic youngest son Alan, who has a rather different perspective on life.

Outcomes: The KSF Grant enabled the company to workshop and stage a rehearsed read-through performance of Act One. This has led to some re-writes and the company hope to stage a full production in early 2016.

“We are very grateful to have been given the opportunity, and we are excited to continue working on the piece.”
