About: Tight Rope is a short film that follows a young Black male growing up in the endz struggling to cope with his sexuality. The film explores what its like to grow up with a devoted religious mother, surrounded by friends that only know the little world they’re in, living on a typical London estate, were everyone knows your business, and if you don’t conform living in this world becomes very, very difficult.

Outcomes: Tight Rope has been selected for several festivals: African American Woman in Cinemas Film Festival in New York City, Takes Film Festival Australia, Portobello Film Festival, Hull Film Festival and has also been selected for viewing on the community channel. The film has proved a showcase for Makalla’s directing talent and has led to her taking up a place at The London Film School.

“As a recipient of the grant it has inspired my enthusiasm as a young up and coming artist. We need more organizations out their like the KSF who support emerging talent.”
